Filmmaker {James Cameron} is extending the world of {Avatar} by adding a fourth sequel to his franchise plans. The director scored a box office hit in 2009 with the release of the original fantasy blockbuster, which starred Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. It currently holds the title as the highest-grossing movie in history. He then announced there would be three follow-ups, with Avatar 2 scheduled to hit cinemas in late 2016, but last year (15), Cameron admitted the writing process was taking longer than expected, and the second instalment was postponed until Christmas, 2017. Cameron made a surprise appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday (14Apr16), and offered up both good and bad news to fans. Addressing the crowds, he told devotees they would have to wait until the end of 2018 for Avatar 2, but then revealed he was adding an extra sequel to the timeline, taking the franchise tally to a total of five films. "We're making four epic films that stand alone but together form a saga," he declared, according to Deadline.com. "These movies were designed to be seen in theatres first." He went on to insist the films would be worth the wait, continuing, "I've been working with the top four screenwriters and designers in the world to design the world of Avatar going forward. The environments, new cultures... From what I'm seeing, the art on the wall... in pure imagination is just beyond the first film. I'm speechless." Avatar 3 is pegged for release in 2020, with the fourth and fifth instalments following in 2022 and 2023. Producătorul Jon Landau a dezvăluit câteva detalii inedite despre noul lungmetraj “Avatar 2”, care este o continuare a filmului lansat în urmă cu 13 ani, “Avatar”.

Acesta este cel de-al doilea film din seria celor patru plănuite și se așteaptă ca premiera să fie pe 16 decembrie 2022. Potrivit declarațiilor regizorului James Cameron, filmările sunt deja încheiate și un al treilea film, “Avatar 3”, este plănuit pentru lansare pe 20 decembrie 2024. Totodată, există planuri pentru alte două continuări, cu lansare pe 18 decembrie 2026, respectiv 22 decembrie 2028, asta dacă filmele “Avatar 2” și “Avatar 3” vor genera suficient profit. Primul film “Avatar” (2009), premiat cu trei Oscaruri, al cărui buget a fost de 237 de milioane de dolari, a fost un succes mondial și ocupă primul loc în topul peliculelor cu cele mai mari încasări din istorie, cu 2,79 de miliarde de dolari.

Un nou sat, un nou stil de viață și o cultură diferită față de “Avatar”

Producătorul a publicat pe Instagram o imagine cu satul Metkayina, o ilustrare conceptuală creată de Jonathan Bach, care este o extensie a lumii populate de clanul cu piele albastră Na’vi. A mai dat de înțeles că locuitorii satului  Metkayina au un stil de viață diferit  și adoptă o altă cultură față de filmul original. Fanii se pot aștepta la imagini de vis, pline de culoare și multe, multe efecte speciale interesante.

James Cameron a mai declarat că au fost foarte norocoși să filmeze o mare parte din peliculă în Noua Zeelandă, pe timpul pandemiei, pentru că totul a fost relativ mai ușor.

În “Avatar 2”, Jake Sully, interpretat de actorul Sam Worthington, continuă să călătorească pe planeta Pandora, împreună cu noua familie pe care o are cu Neytiri, interpretată de actrița  Zoe Saldana. Din distribuție mai fac parte actorii Sigourney Weaver, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Edie Falco, Cliff Curtis, Oona Chaplin, Vin Diesel, Michelle Yeoh și David Thewlis.
