J-Lo kicked off the concert, held at Los Angeles' So-Fi Stadium in Ingelwood and told the audience: " Look at all these beautiful people. We’re all in the same room. We’ve been away from one another for too long, but we’re back!" When Lopez introduced a special guest, her mother Guadalupe Rodríguez, there was an underlying message: Vaccinations help people reunite with loved ones. "I didn't even get to spend Christmas with my mom this year. First time in my whole life. Been way too long. But she’s here tonight and she’s vaccinated," a happy J-Lo said. She chose a song her mother sang to her as a baby, Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline. "Come out here, Mommy! Everybody give it up for Lupe," said Lopez, before her mother explained that she switched the name to Sweet Jennifer and sang it as a lullaby. Mother and daughter then teamed up with the audience in a sweet, softer rendition of the classic. Lopez returned later to close the show with one of her signature stage numbers, complete with dancers, as she gave a very sexy performance of a song with a very different maternal reference Ain't Your Mama. The thrill of performing in front of a crowd again extended to others at the star-studded event including Eddie Vedder, J Balvin and H.E.R. Also appearing on stage were Prince Harry, Selena Gomez, Chrissy Teigen, David Letterman, Ben Affleck, Jimmy Kimmel, Sean Penn and Olivia Munn. The Foo Fighters also brought out a special guest - AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson who joined them on stage to sing. Pope Francis and President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden delivered taped messages asking people to get vaccinated. Prince Harry received a big welcome from a crowd of about 20,000 health care and essential workers. Concertgoers, applauding and singing throughout the show, gave one of their warmest welcomes to Britain's Prince Harry, a co-chair of the event with his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, who did not appear in person. "You've spent the last year battling courageously and selflessly to protect us all," Harry said to the front-line workers. "You've served and sacrificed, put yourselves in harm's way and acted with bravery knowing the cost. J Balvin a mărturisit că era să moară din cauza COVID-19, anul trecut. Artistul s-a numărat printre vedetele care au participat la concertul caritabil „Vax Live”, în urma căruia a fost strânsă suma de 302 milioane de dolari ce va fi folosită pentru cumpărarea și distribuirea echitabilă a 26 de milioane de doze de vaccin anti-COVID-19. 

Aflat pe scenă, J Balvid a profitat de ocazie și a povestit despre experiența prin care a trecut când a fost depistat pozitiv.

Evenimentul „Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World” a fost înregistrat pe 2 mai și difuzat în weekendul care s-a încheiat. Acesta a fost organizat cu scopul de a încuraja corporațiile și organizațiile de caritate să doneze, mai ales pentru a se asigura accesul la vaccin pentru lucrătorii din prima linie, în țările în care imunizarea nu este încă disponibilă. Totodată, concertul a avut ca scop încurajarea oamenilor care au acces la vaccin de a-l face.

“Vaccinați-vă pentru voi, pentru cei din jurul vostru și pentru cei din întreaga lume. Virusul este real și este periculos. Mi-aș dori să nu treceți niciodată prin ceea ce a trecut eu”, au fost cuvintele adresate de J Balvin celor câtorva mii de spectatori vaccinați care au participat la evenimentul organizat de Global Citizen la SoFi Stadium din Inglewood, California.

Papa Francisc a transmis un mesaj special

Printre vedetele care au mai urcat pe scenă s-au mai numărat Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, H.E.R. şi Jennifer Lopez, care a făcut un duet cu mama ei. Selena Gomez a fost gazda evenimentului, iar vedete precum Ben Affleck, Chrissy Teigen, Jimmy Kimmel, Sean Penn şi David Letterman au fost, de asemenea, printre invitați.

Preşedintele american Joe Biden și prinţul Harry s-au numărat printre personalităţile care au participat la concert. Chiar și papa Francisc a transmis un mesaj video pentru susţinerea iniţiativei. „Dragi tineri după vârstă şi după spirit, primiţi un cordial salut de la acest bătrân care nu dansează şi nici nu cântă ca voi, dar care crede, ca voi, că nedreptatea şi răul nu sunt invincibile”, a spus suveranul pontif.
