Superproducția „Godzilla vs. Kong” a înregistrat cel mai bun debut în box office-ul nord-american de la izbucnirea pandemiei, o veste care oferă un mare impuls industriei de la Hollywood.

Producția Legendary și Warner Bros. a vândut, miercuri, în prima zi în cinematografele din America de Nord, bilete de 9,6 milioane de dolari. Filmul a fost proiectat în 2.409 săli de cinema, majoritatea în SUA. Până vineri, filmul a ajuns în 3.064 de cinematografe, dar multe dintre ele au capacitate limitată, din cauza pandemiei, potrivit The Hollywood Reporter.

Producătorii se așteaptă ca filmul „Godzilla vs. Kong” să obțină 30 – 40 de milioane de dolari în primele sale cinci zile. Legendary și Warner Bros. au obținut deja o victorie majoră weekendul trecut, când filmul a înregistrat încasări de 123 de milioane de dolari la debutul său în cinematografele din afara Americii de Nord, inclusiv 70 de milioane de dolari în China.

Până în prezent, cele mai mari încasări în primele trei zile de la lansarea în cinematografele din America de Nord, pe perioada pandemiei, le realizase producția Warner Bros „Wonder Woman 1984” (16,7 milioane de dolari).

Legendary Pictures, producătorul filmului „Godzilla vs. Kong”, a anunțat inițial proiectul în 2015, ca un eveniment crossover între francizele „Godzilla” și „King Kong”. Între timp au fost lansate peliculele „Godzilla”, în 2014, „Kong: Skull Island”, în 2017, și „Godzilla: King of the Monsters”, în 2019. Adam Wingard, celebru pentru filme de groază precum „Death Note” și „Blair Witch”, a regizat noul lungmetraj, în care joacă Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall și Brian Tyree Henry, printre alții.
