Demi Lovato started off her hosting duties on the People’s Choice Awards with a bang! During her opening monologue, host Lovato, 28, poked fun at her eventful year, which included calling off her engagement to Max Ehrich in September. "I am so excited to be here tonight because honestly this year has been the longest three years of my life," the singer said as she reflected on some of her biggest moments from the start of the year. "Don't get me wrong, it started out amazing. I performed at the Grammys and sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl. But then, COVID hit, and everything shut down." She then quipped: "So I did what everyone else did, I went into lockdown mode, and got engaged," referring to Ehrich's proposal in July. Lovato then went on to jokingly share a list of the ways she kept busy over the next few months. "I got into painting, photography, meditation, tested the limits of post mates unlimited. Also, I didn't know this could happen, but reached the end of Instagram four times. I binged seven seasons of Pretty Little Liars, got unengaged, then went looking for aliens in the desert,” she continued. "So basically the same as everyone else," she joked. Cântăreața Demi Lovato a anunțat că se identifică drept non-binară și că își va schimba oficial pronumele în they/ them (ei/ele/lor).

Cântăreața în vârstă de 28 de ani a făcut această mărturisire într-un mesaj video publicat pe rețeaua de socializare Twitter, menționând că această decizie vine după o lungă perioadă de recuperare și reflecție. De altfel, Lovato a precizat că această dezvăluire a deschis un nou nivel de vulnerabilitate, după ce, în martie, a declarat că are o orientare pansexuală. 

Demi Lovato: “Trebuie să ne trăim propriul adevăr”

Cu această ocazie, Lovato a anunțat și că va lansa o serie de podcast-uri și și-a îndemnat fanii să fie sinceri cu ei înșiși și să trăiască în adevăr.

„În fiecare zi, ne trezim și ni se dă încă o șansă să fim cine dorim noi să fim.  În 2018 eram pe punctul de a muri și acum, reflectând la asta, îmi dau seama că mi s-au întâmplat toate acele lucruri pentru că îmi ignoram propriul adevăr despre cine sunt”, a spus aceasta. 

În urmă cu doi ani, cântărețul britanic premiat cu Grammy Sam Smith s-a declarat non-binar, pentru că nu se simțea „nici bărbat, nici femeie, ci undeva între”. Iubita lui Elon Musk, Grimes, Elliot Page, Jojo Siwa, TJ Osbourne, dar și Sara Ramirez, din „Grey’s Anatomy”, se mai numără printre cei care se identifică în prezent drept non-binară.
